Rajasthan Admits 611 Schools Lack Buildings Amid Opposition Scrutiny
The Rajasthan government recently acknowledged in the state assembly that 611 government schools are operating without permanent buildings, based on UDISE data under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
The disclosure followed intensive political scrutiny and inspection campaigns led by opposition groups highlighting severe infrastructure gaps.
Beyond the missing structures—which include 10 dedicated girls' schools and 38 facilities in Jaipur—official data also revealed thousands of rooms categorized as dilapidated, alongside critical shortages of drinking water and sanitation amenities across numerous campuses.
In response to growing public pressure and media coverage of makeshift classrooms, the education department moved to restrict unauthorized entries and photography on school grounds.
While opposition leaders have condemned these restrictions as an attempt to suppress ground realities, state officials maintain that upgrading educational infrastructure and repairing unsafe facilities remain top priorities for the administration.
