Panama-Flagged Cargo Ship Sinks Off Odisha Coast; Two Rescued, 22 Missing

A Panama-flagged bulk carrier, the MV Ocean Winner, sank in the Bay of Bengal roughly 240 nautical miles off the Paradip coast in Odisha after losing communication.

The vessel had departed from Paradip Port carrying a cargo of iron ore bound for Singapore with 24 crew members on board, comprising 20 Chinese nationals, three from Myanmar, and one from Bangladesh.

Following distress alerts, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre activated the International Safety Net and diverted a nearby merchant vessel, which successfully recovered two survivors from separate life rafts.

The Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy have launched a massive joint search and rescue operation involving multiple ships and aircraft to locate the 22 missing crew members. The exact cause behind the sudden sinking remains under investigation.
