NDA Eyes Synchronized Polls for 22 States Alongside 2029 Lok Sabha Elections

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is actively discussing a roadmap to advance simultaneous elections under the "One Nation, One Election" framework to 2029 across 22 states and Union Territories where it holds power.

To implement this, the joint parliamentary committee reviewing the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill is considering mechanisms to curtail or synchronize the terms of state assemblies.

While four states already hold simultaneous polls, the transition would require cutting short the legislative tenures of several other NDA-governed states by up to four years.

While several party chief ministers have expressed willingness to support the move in the national interest, the proposal faces strong opposition from parties like the Congress over federal and constitutional concerns.
