Bihar-Born Politician Takes Top UK AI Role
Kanishka Narayan, born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has risen through the UK political ranks to become the country's Minister for Artificial Intelligence, bringing the portfolio directly into the Cabinet fold.
Narayan moved from Bihar to Delhi in his early years before relocating to Cardiff, Wales, at age 12.
His academic path took him from a scholarship at Eton College to studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Oxford, followed by an MBA from Stanford.
Before entering parliament, he built a diverse career spanning venture capital, tech advisory, and civil service positions in the Cabinet Office.
In July 2024, Narayan made history by winning the Vale of Glamorgan seat, becoming the first ethnic minority MP elected in Wales.
Now leading the UK’s AI agenda, he focuses on scaling sovereign computing infrastructure, fostering responsible deployment, and shaping global technology standards.
