A New Era Begins: BCCI Appoints Smriti Mandhana as Captain Following Harmanpreet Kaur's Exit
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced Smriti Mandhana as India's new all-format captain, succeeding Harmanpreet Kaur.
Harmanpreet concludes a legendary ten-year leadership tenure, highlighted by India's historic home ODI World Cup victory in 2025.
Having led the team with distinction across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is since 2016, she will continue to represent the national side purely as a player.
Mandhana, a seasoned opener and two-time Women's Premier League winning captain with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, steps into the role with immense tactical experience.
The transition marks a strategic shift by the board to position the next generation of leadership ahead of crucial international tournaments.
Mandhana's tenure begins immediately as India prepares for its upcoming global fixtures, aiming to build upon the strong foundation laid by her predecessor.
