CBI Takes Over Parvinder Singh Jhota Murder Probe, Sends Special Team to Punjab
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially stepped into the high-profile murder case of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, registering a formal First Information Report (FIR) and dispatching a specialized investigative team to Punjab.
Jhota was shot dead in broad daylight on October 13, 2026, inside a medical store in Mansa district while live-streaming on Facebook, a tragic incident that sparked widespread outrage and continuous protests from his family and local community.
Well-known for his relentless campaigns against the illicit sale of addictive pharmaceutical drugs, Jhota had confronted the primary suspect, store owner Ashwani Kumar, over alleged illegal transactions just moments before the fatal shooting.
Although the main accused was earlier apprehended in Rajasthan, the Punjab government formally transferred the investigation to the central agency to ensure a transparent, comprehensive inquiry into all potential angles and wider conspiracies behind the activist's death.
