CJP Alleges Delays in Release of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka After Four Sureties Rejected
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has accused authorities of intentional procedural delays in securing the release of jailed party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, following the rejection of four local sureties.
According to the CJP’s legal cell, administrative hurdles and stalling tactics were deployed to keep the leaders behind bars.
The legal team stated that four local Delhi sureties were rejected on vague grounds, with individuals facing minor historical FIRs from political protests unfairly branded as having criminal antecedents.
Ratna Singh, head of the CJP's legal team, alleged that officials dragged out documentation verification and engineered unavailability among station house officers to prolong the detention.
Das and Ashutosh Ranka were originally remanded to five days of judicial custody in Tihar Jail following a protest at Jantar Mantar.
Police claimed they violated Section 130 of the BNSS regarding peace bonds and breached local regulations restricting demonstrations at the venue.
Denouncing the detention as a direct assault on political dissent, the CJP consulted senior counsel Kapil Sibal and issued a stern warning of legal action.
The party maintains that the continued incarceration is politically motivated to suppress their ongoing protests against electoral roll revisions and restrictions on demonstration sites.
