INDIA Bloc March Ends in Standoffs as Rahul and Priyanka Stage Surprise Sit-In
The INDIA bloc's high-voltage protest march from Parliament to the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi witnessed dramatic clashes with security forces on Tuesday.
Over 140 opposition MPs marched to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities.
Heavy security barricades and a massive police deployment led to widespread scuffles and the detention of several prominent leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav and Abhishek Banerjee.
However, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra orchestrated an off-script maneuver.
After escaping police cordons following a brief detention, the siblings and supporting leaders entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises and staged an impromptu sit-in under a banyan tree.
During the dharna, Rahul Gandhi criticized heavy-handed restrictions, questioning where citizens are legally permitted to voice dissent. The surprise protest successfully sustained the opposition's demonstration.
