Massive landslide hits Waynad Tunnel site : 1 Dead, 7 Missing
WAYANAD: A massive landslide struck the under-construction Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi tunnel road site in Kerala today, leaving one person dead, seven injured, and at least seven missing. Triggered by a relentless deluge that prompted an IMD "Red Alert" for Wayanad, the mudslide buried temporary worker quarters and vehicles.
Over 60 NDRF and emergency personnel are executing high-stakes rescue operations amid highly unstable terrain. Meanwhile, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has labeled it a "man-made disaster," accusing contractors of criminal negligence for ignoring strict orders to clear excavated soil ahead of the monsoons.
