PM Modi Begins Three-Nation Tour; Conferred with Indonesia’s Highest Civilian Honour in Jakarta

Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a high-stakes, six-day diplomatic tour spanning Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand, aimed at reinforcing India’s "Act East" policy and maritime security across the Indo-Pacific.
Arriving in Jakarta for the first leg of his visit, PM Modi was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the Istana Merdeka by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. In a historic highlight of the bilateral visit, President Subianto conferred PM Modi with the "Bintang Adipurna" (Star of the Republic of Indonesia)—the nation's highest civilian order—honouring his exceptional contributions to strengthening ties between the two democratic nations.
Following the ceremony, the two leaders held extensive delegation-level talks that yielded nearly a dozen strategic pacts. In a major defense breakthrough, Indonesia finalized multi-million-dollar agreements to import India’s indigenously developed BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and Astra air-to-air missiles to bolster its military capability. Additional agreements spanned critical mineral supply chains, maritime safety, and food security. PM Modi also announced that IIM Bangalore will establish a campus in Indonesia to train regional youth, hailing the start of a "golden chapter" in bilateral cooperation.
