Rejinagar Bypoll Drama: TMC Candidate Rabiul Islam Reverses Withdrawal After Mamata’s Intervention
The Rejinagar Assembly bypoll witnessed high drama when Trinamool Congress candidate Rabiul Islam dramatically reversed his decision to withdraw from the race, following direct intervention by party supremo Mamata Banerjee.
Initially, Islam announced his exit, citing severe pressure, alleged police harassment of grassroots workers, false legal cases, and the difficulty of familiarizing voters with a new election symbol in a short timeframe.
However, within ninety minutes, Islam executed a complete U-turn. He revealed that Mamata Banerjee personally telephoned him, firmly directing him to stay in the contest.
Reversing his stance, Islam declared that he would abide by the leadership's wishes.
Additionally, Islam visited the local police station, where law enforcement officials provided explicit assurances regarding the safety and unhindered campaign access of his party workers.
This rapid intervention ensures a solid electoral presence for the party.
