India’s net direct tax collections rose 12.96% year-on-year to reach Rs 12.12 lakh crore as of September 17, 2026, driven by strong corporate earnings and steady economic activity.
Gross collections increased 15.19% to Rs 14.32 lakh crore, up from Rs 12.43 lakh crore last year.
Tax refunds rose 29.19% to Rs 2.20 lakh crore, indicating faster processing and better taxpayer liquidity.
Corporate collections before refunds grew over 16% to Rs 6.94 lakh crore, while non-corporate taxes rose 12% to Rs 6.97 lakh crore.
Furthermore, advance tax grew 16.18% to Rs 5.21 lakh crore, and Securities Transaction Tax surged over 50% to Rs 40,214.36 crore.
Experts emphasize that this consistent expansion reflects strong business confidence, a widening tax base, and robust underlying economic momentum heading into the latter half of the fiscal year.
