Double Blow for Mamata Faction: Rejinagar Nominee Pulls Out After Nandigram Exit
The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress faction faced another major crisis ahead of the October 6 assembly bypolls as Rejinagar candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhury withdrew his nomination.
This sudden exit comes barely a day after Nandigram nominee Sanchita Pradhan Dey also stepped down, leaving the camp without candidates in both constituencies.
Chowdhury cited severe ground-level pressure, arrests of party workers, and severe logistical hurdles in familiarizing voters with a newly assigned election symbol.
The turmoil stems from a fierce internal factional split that prompted the Election Commission to freeze the original party name and "twin flowers" symbol.
With both nominees bowing out, the faction's electoral strategy is in deep disarray, significantly altering the political landscape of the upcoming Murshidabad and Purba Medinipur contests.
