Court Steps Up 2018 Defamation Proceedings: Bailable Warrants Issued for Dhruv Rathee
A Delhi court has issued bailable warrants against prominent YouTuber and content creator Dhruv Rathee in connection with a long-standing 2018 criminal defamation case.
The legal proceedings stem from a complaint filed by Vikas Pandey (also known as Vikas Sankrityayan), a member of the BJP IT Cell. Pandey accused Rathee of defamation over a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, which alleged that members of the BJP IT Cell had attempted to bribe him.
Judicial Magistrate Rahul Jain ordered the bailable warrants after a process server reported finding Rathee's residence locked while attempting to execute a court-mandated service notice. This enforcement step follows fresh summons issued earlier, after the complainant highlighted ongoing difficulties in serving notice over several years, compounded by Rathee typically residing abroad.
The court's decision marks a strict escalation in ensuring compliance and securing the creator's appearance as the litigation moves forward. Further updates on the schedule and subsequent hearings are expected as the legal process unfolds.
