Independent MP Pappu Yadav claimed an assassination attempt was made against him during a press conference at his Delhi residence.
Yadav had convened the media briefing to address mounting backlash and FIRs filed against him following a controversial opposition skit in Parliament regarding Ayodhya Ram Temple donations.
Chaos ensued as a scuffle erupted, with Yadav and his supporters alleging that the individual had also brandished a knife to attack the lawmaker.
Supporters managed to overpower the suspect, reportedly identifying him as Sumit, and quickly handed him over to the police.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the security lapse, verifying the suspect's identity, evaluating the weapon claims, and reviewing the escalating threats directed at the MP.
