New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi joined the parents of Ankita Bhandari at a protest at India Gate, opposing the reported appointment of Dushyant Gautam as governor.

The protest has renewed attention on the 2022 murder case and the family’s demand for further investigation.

Ankita Bhandari, a 19-year-old receptionist at a resort near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, was murdered in September 2022. Three men were convicted in the case and sentenced to life imprisonment.

However, her parents have continued to demand a thorough investigation into allegations concerning an unidentified VIP who they believe may have been connected to the circumstances surrounding their daughter’s death. They want the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to examine this angle and have called for Gautam’s appointment to be put on hold pending further investigation.
