Landslides Halt Mumbai-Pune Rail Corridor; 30 Trains Cancelled Until July 17
Pune: Heavy monsoon rains on July 6 triggered massive landslides along the Bhor Ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala, severely damaging all three railway tracks. In response, Central Railway has announced the temporary cancellation of 30 long-distance, intercity, and special trains through July 17, 2026.
Major affected services include the iconic Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, and the CSMT-Pune Intercity Express. While limited services like the Pragati Express continue to operate at a restricted speed of 30 km/h, they remain heavily crowded.
Railway authorities are currently using single-line operations with twin front-locomotives to safely navigate the steep ghats while restoration crews work around the clock. Central Railway is proactively sending SMS alerts to passengers to prevent overcrowding at stations. Commuters traveling between Mumbai and Pune are strongly advised to opt for road transport via the Expressway until full rail services resume.
