PATNA: In a stunning political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Bankipur assembly bypoll, Abhishek Kumar Sinha alias 'Bunty', has unexpectedly withdrawn his nomination.
Just a day after filing his papers amidst a massive show of strength by the NDA, Bunty wrote to the party's state leadership, citing "unavoidable family reasons" for his sudden exit.
The high-profile seat, a traditional BJP stronghold vacated by Nitin Nabin, is now locked in a fierce battle between Jan Suraaj's Prashant Kishor and RJD's Rekha Gupta.
With the polling date set for July 30 and the deadline for filing nominations fast approaching on July 13, the BJP central leadership is in a race against time. The party must quickly announce a replacement candidate to avoid giving its rivals a massive psychological and tactical head-start.
