BKTC Integrates AI Surveillance at Badrinath and Kedarnath After Donation Theft
Following a major donation theft scandal at Badrinath Dham, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) is overhauling its security infrastructure.
The committee is integrating surveillance systems at Badrinath and Kedarnath with an AI-enabled cloud and satellite storage network.
This upgrade ensures real-time monitoring and remote access to archived footage for authorized officials from anywhere.
The decision follows revealing limitations in the existing hardware: while BKTC claimed footage was preserved for 45 days, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the theft could only retrieve 13 days of footage due to storage constraints.
Alongside the cloud integration, local storage has been expanded to 32 TB.
The move comes after suspended employee Pramod Nautiyal and former officer Rajendra Chauhan were implicated using retrieved CCTV footage showing cash and artifact theft. The AI system will eventually cover 47 BKTC temples.
