Low Parliament Productivity: Lok Sabha At 19%, Rajya Sabha At 39% Amid Opposition Uproar
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju recently revealed alarming productivity figures for a parliamentary session, with the Lok Sabha plunging to 19% and the Rajya Sabha reaching just 39%.
The government strongly blamed the Congress-led opposition for continuous disruptions, walkouts, and intentionally avoiding crucial legislative debates.
Despite the severe gridlock and constant uproar that marred the proceedings, a total of 12 bills were successfully passed by the house.
However, the administration expressed deep concern over the lack of substantive discussion, noting that these crucial legislative measures had to be pushed through with minimal debate due to the persistent chaos in both houses.
The session, which began on July 20, was marked by repeated disruptions, with Opposition protests initially centred on the NEET paper leak and alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The Opposition later sought a discussion on police action against students protesting over the NEET issue and demanded statements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
In a bid to end the deadlock, the government on Monday offered a debate on the NEET issue followed by a reply from Shah. The Congress rejected the proposal. A similar attempt on Wednesday also failed.
