Parliamentary Uproar Over 'Shuddhikaran' Ritual Following Kharge Rally
A fierce political row erupted in Parliament following a 'shuddhikaran' (purification) ceremony performed at a Haldwani venue after a public rally addressed by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
The Congress party strongly condemned the ritual—reportedly organized by the Shri Ram Sena—denouncing it as an act of caste-based discrimination targeting the Dalit leader and demanding a rigorous police probe.
Meanwhile, the BJP distanced itself from the organization, with state leaders countering that slogans raised during the opposition rally deeply hurt the religious sentiments of Sanatan Dharma believers, accusing rivals of politicizing the incident.
The regional controversy quickly spilled over into national proceedings, creating stormy scenes and heated exchanges in the Rajya Sabha as lawmakers clashed sharply over caste sensitivities and political accountability.
