Alarmed by the catastrophic monsoon destruction and flash floods in neighboring Nepal, the Uttarakhand government has aggressively stepped up its disaster preparedness and surveillance mechanisms.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed authorities to fast-track monitoring of vulnerable water bodies across the fragile Himalayan terrain.

State and national disaster management teams are prioritizing technical assessments of thirteen sensitive glacial lakes identified by the NDMA, with urgent on-ground surveys deploying to high-risk sites like Saraswati Tal in Chamoli and Kedartal in Uttarkashi.

To mitigate potential Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) threats, authorities are installing automated water-level sensors and advanced early-warning systems designed to transmit real-time alerts to downstream communities.

Concurrently, district administrations have intensified round-the-clock surveillance along major river channels and border areas.

Officials are actively auditing rescue equipment, mapping safe evacuation routes, and drilling local response teams to protect vulnerable settlements from sudden surges.
