Uttar Pradesh Government Renames Bhadohi District to Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has officially announced the renaming of the Bhadohi district to Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi. The announcement was made during a major public event in the district, where the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 112 development projects valued at over 1,340 crore rupees.

The decision honors the profound cultural and spiritual heritage of the 15th-century mystic poet, social reformer, and saint Sant Ravidas. This move anticipates the upcoming celebrations for his 650th birth anniversary, paying homage to his enduring teachings on equality and social harmony.

This nomenclature change revisits a previous political decision. The region was first designated as Sant Ravidas Nagar in 2007 during Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party administration, before being reverted to Bhadohi under Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party government. The state administration will now proceed with the necessary formal administrative procedures to officially implement the name restoration across all government records and documentation.
