Technology is a booster dose for the growth of journalism

“Technology is a booster dose for the growth of journalism” emerged as the consensus conclusion of a thought-provoking panel discussion addressed by leading electronic and print media journalists, along with journalism academicians, on the occasion of the release of the annual magazine *The Statement* by the Department of Business Economics & Management Studies at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, a premier institution of the University of Delhi known for its A++ NAAC accreditation.

The event brought together prominent voices from the media and academic spheres, highlighting the transformative role of technology in shaping modern journalism. The magazine was formally released by distinguished panellists Shri Harsha Vardhan Dwivedi, Shri Aunshumaan Tripathi, Prof. D. D. Chaturvedi, along with Dr. Manisha Rao, Convener of the organising society INSIGHTS, the advisory board Mr. Jitesh Rana and Ms. Hasgun Kaur as well as the student representatives Tarveen Kaur and Darshreet Kaur.

Shri Harsha Vardhan Dwivedi, while conducting an engaging session, reflected on the evolution of news from television to smartphones, making it instantly accessible. He described *samachar* as “samyak + achar,” emphasizing balanced reporting. He noted that AI is currently used to speed up news delivery, but its real potential lies in improving precision. He added that while Indian media is still experimenting with AI, it will soon master its use, alongside a shift toward subscription based, customized news.

Shri Aunshumaan Tripathi highlighted the crucial role of technology in sustaining the news business, enabling content to be available anytime and anywhere. He described AI as inevitable, enhancing content creation and expanding reach to local audiences. However, he warned against the dangers of fake news and algorithm driven misinformation, stressing the importance of data and credibility in modern journalism.

Prof. D. D. Chaturvedi emphasized the media’s vital role in gathering and transmitting impactful information, along with its responsibility to do so ethically. He illustrated this with a metaphor, noting the difference between stillness and flow, highlighting the need for dynamic and responsible journalism.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, esteemed faculty members, and media enthusiasts, making it a vibrant platform for meaningful dialogue on the future of journalism in an increasingly digital and AI-driven era.
