Supreme Court Denies Tarun Tejpal's Plea, Orders Surrender Within Two Weeks
The Supreme Court of India rejected former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal’s plea seeking exemption from surrendering, directing him to turn himself in within two weeks.
A bench led by Justice Alok Aradhe instructed Tejpal to file an official surrender certificate on or before September 22. The apex court clarified that his ongoing appeal challenging the Bombay High court conviction will only be taken up for a formal hearing after the surrender condition is met.
Tejpal was previously convicted by the High Court, which overturned his 2021 trial court acquittal and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2013 sexual assault case.
