Supreme Court Appoints Three New Judges to Fortify Bench Strength and Diversity
President Droupadi Murmu has officially cleared the appointments of three distinguished jurists to the Supreme Court of India, bringing its active working strength to 37 judges.
This vital expansion fills critical vacancies under the court's newly increased sanctioned strength of 38, ensuring enhanced capacity to handle complex national litigation and reduce growing backlog pressures across the country.
The newly inducted jurists include former High Court Chief Justices Sunita Agarwal, Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, and Aparesh Kumar Singh.
Notably, the elevation of Justice Sunita Agarwal marks a significant milestone, strengthening female representation among the apex court bench.
Recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, these appointments reflect an ongoing commitment to bolstering judicial efficiency, expertise, and diversity.
The formal oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place at the court premises shortly, formally ushering the new justices into their prestigious constitutional roles.
