A fierce morning downpour lashed Delhi-NCR on Tuesday under an IMD red alert, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across key areas like AIIMS, Connaught Place, and ITO.
Airlination tracking showed 15 flight cancellations and over 102 delays at Indira Gandhi International Airport due to the severe weather.
The India Meteorological Department attributes the deluge—featuring thunderstorms and gusty winds—to a colliding western disturbance and lower-tropospheric trough.
This continuous weather assault has pushed cumulative seasonal rainfall significantly above normal across the capital.
Safdarjung has recorded 29% excess rain at 246.2 mm, while Ayanagar saw a staggering 66% surplus at 266.3 mm.
With moderate-to-heavy showers expected to persist, authorities continue to monitor vulnerable low-lying zones as commuters battle massive disruptions.
