Parliament’s Monsoon Session Begins with Eight Key Bills
The Monsoon Session of Parliament convenes today, scheduled for 19 sittings across 25 days. The government has listed eight key legislative bills for introduction, consideration, and passing during this session.
Among the priority items is the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, aimed at raising sanctioned judge strength from 33 to 37 to ease judicial pendency.
Another prominent proposal is the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to make disruptions during the national song a punishable offense.
Additional agenda items focus on income-tax reforms, MSME development regulations, and updated birth and death registration norms.
A stormy session is anticipated following an Opposition walkout during Sunday's all-party meeting convened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Opposition parties plan to confront the government on issues including foreign contribution regulations, regional political shifts, and competitive examination paper leaks.
