Nine Dead in Bhiwandi Building Collapse; Rescue Operations Underway

At least nine people were killed after a wing of the four-storey Kohinoor Building collapsed in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, late Thursday night. Several others are still feared trapped under the rubble.

The structure, housing 48 rooms, had previously been declared dangerous by the municipal corporation. Tragedy struck around 11:30 PM while structural repair work was actively underway. Hours prior to the cave-in, alert residents heard loud cracking noises and managed to evacuate several families.

Emergency responders, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local fire brigades, and police, rushed to the site immediately. Multi-agency search and rescue operations utilizing heavy machinery and canine squads are ongoing to locate survivors.
