Networks Reject Trump Speech; President Demands License Revocation

ABC, NBC, and CNN declined to air a prime-time White House address live on their main channels, opting to stream it digitally with real-time fact-checking instead. The networks cited concerns over broadcasting unverified claims regarding the electoral process.

The decision drew fierce backlash from President Trump, who used the address to accuse the media of bias, asserting that "fraud like this should mean a revocation of their licenses."

However, legal experts emphasize the president lacks the authority to pull the networks off the air. The FCC does not license entire networks—only individual local stations—and cable channels like CNN require no broadcast license. Furthermore, the First Amendment protects a network's right to make its own editorial choices. While FCC Chair Brendan Carr has signaled increased scrutiny toward legacy media, an actual revocation remains highly unlikely under current communications law.
