Meta Introduces Special Oversight for High-Profile Accounts After PM Modi Post Removal

Meta has written to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), announcing enhanced oversight and mandatory multi-layer senior reviews for posts made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent public figures.

This move follows the brief, controversial removal of a Facebook selfie video featuring the Prime Minister addressing youth issues and examination paper leaks.

While Meta blamed the takedown on an automated AI filtering glitch and issued an unconditional apology, the Indian government rejected the explanation as insufficient, terming the disruption of a verified leader's official content an "extremely disturbing" occurrence.

Maintaining that the issue remains far from settled, MeitY has demanded rigorous technical safeguards to "ring-fence" high-profile handles and prevent arbitrary algorithmic moderation.

A Meta delegation is scheduled to meet with Indian officials to formalize these structural corrections.
