Lalit Modi Set to Return to India After 16 Years
Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi is preparing to return to India after 16 years abroad, following a major legal victory.
The SAFEMA Appellate Tribunal recently set aside key findings and penalties imposed on him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding alleged FEMA violations during the 2009 IPL in South Africa.
The tribunal ruled that the foreign exchange remittances were current account transactions, clearing Modi of personal liability in the main proceedings.
Modi left India in 2010 amid allegations of financial irregularities and money laundering, though he consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Celebrating the verdict, he declared that his long legal battle had finally come to an end, vindicating his actions. He plans to return by late 2026 or early 2027, after welcoming his grandchild in October.
