Ranchi : Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren died on Friday, JMM national spokesperson Kunal Sarangi said.
He was 62.
Soren was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Delhi, where he was admitted on August 2.
“State Education Minister Ramdas Soren, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi, is no more,” Sarangi told PTI.
Soren’s condition was critical and he was on life support, Sarangi said.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader was airlifted to the hospital in the national capital from Jamshedpur after he fell in the bathroom of his residence on August 2.
A multidisciplinary team of senior specialists was closely monitoring his condition and providing intensive medical care.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled his death.
Ramdas Soren had suffered from kidney-related ailments before, and had been receiving treatment at Apollo Hospital in Delhi earlier also. Therefore, at the request of his family, it was decided to airlift him to Delhi. However, even after being admitted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi, his condition remained critical and was put on a life support system, with a team of multidisciplinary senior specialists closely monitoring his condition.
Despite doctors’ efforts, his condition worsened, and he succumbed late Friday.
Apollo Hospital authorities have also confirmed the death.
His mortal remains are likely to be brought back to Jamshedpur on Saturday for the final rites.
Ramdas Soren, who started his political career in 1980 with JMM, was counted among the prominent leaders in the party and was a sitting MLA from Ghatshila. After Champai Soren joined BJP, Ramdas Soren replaced him in Hemant Soren Cabinet. Hemant Soren made him a minister in his previous cabinet, projecting him as a prominant leader of Kolhan. After the 2024 Assembly polls, he retained his seat and was made a minister again.
