Harish Rawat Resigns From Congress Posts After ED Recovers Cash and Gold From Former Aide
Senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat resigned from all party posts following Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on his former personal assistant, Chandan Singh Jeena.
Rawat stepped down from the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee executive and his role as a permanent invitee to the national Congress Working Committee to protect the party from controversy.
During raids linked to an ongoing money laundering probe into the 2016 Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission recruitment scam, the ED recovered ₹32 lakh in cash, gold ornaments, 12 luxury watches, and froze bank accounts holding ₹52.16 lakh.
While the agency has not formally named Rawat as an accused, the politician expressed deep shock over the recoveries.
He stated that if his former aide is proven complicit in tampering with youth futures, he would be profoundly ashamed, though he noted Jeena's historical reputation for hard work.
