Government likely to agree to Lok Sabha discussion on NEET paper leak issue

New Delhi: The government is likely to inform the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that it is willing to hold a discussion on the NEET paper leak issue, sources said, amid continued demands from the opposition for a debate in Parliament.

According to sources, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla shortly before the announcement was expected.

During the Question Hour, Birla told protesting opposition members that he would allow a discussion on issues raised by them if they submitted a formal notice.

He also underlined that time would not be a constraint for members wishing to participate in the discussion.

The government had on Tuesday indicated its willingness to hold a discussion on the NEET paper leak issue and the protests linked to it.

The opposition has been pressing for a debate on the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and is also demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the handling of the controversy.
