From Anxious Beginner to Cockpit Hero The Smit Machchhar Story

Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar has been globally hailed as a hero following his extraordinary courage aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073. A Boeing 737 MAX 8 travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 174 passengers and crew faced a nightmare when the Omani co-pilot suddenly attacked and stabbed Captain Machchhar inside the cockpit, attempting to crash the aircraft and sending it into a steep nosedive of over 14,000 feet.

Despite severe knife injuries, Captain Machchhar managed to unlock the cockpit door. This vital action enabled passengers and crew to rush in, overpower the attacker, and avert a catastrophic disaster before a reserve pilot safely diverted the plane to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Growing up in Mumbai, Captain Machchhar initially pursued textile engineering and management studies before discovering his passion for aviation, eventually building a distinguished 15-year career. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu both praised his exceptional quick thinking and bravery. Currently recovering in Abu Dhabi surrounded by his family, Captain Machchhar’s remarkable journey from an anxious beginner to a steadfast commander stands as a testament to ultimate composure under pressure
