From Amravati to Asian Games Glory Archer Kumkums Father Eyes Olympic Gold
Amravati: The phenomenal triumph of 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games has brought immense pride to her hometown of Amravati, Maharashtra, and the entire nation. Kumkum etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve gold medal at the Asian Games, holding her nerve to shoot a perfect 10 in a dramatic single-arrow shoot-off against South Korea's Oh Yejin.
Beyond her individual gold, the teenage sensation wrapped up a stellar debut campaign with a total of three medals, including a women's team gold alongside Ankita Bhakat and Kirti Sharma, and a mixed team silver with Dhiraj Bommadevara.
Reflecting on her incredible journey from Amravati's Gosavi Colony to continental glory, her father, Anil Mohod, expressed immense joy and shared that her ultimate focus is now set on clinching gold at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Despite her meteoric rise, Kumkum remains grounded, focusing on her academics as a Class 12 student while maintaining a rigorous training regimen under coach Praful Dange, entirely detached from social media distractions.
