Former Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta Dies by Suicide at Noida Residence
Former Delhi Chief Secretary and senior bureaucrat Rakesh Mehta passed away at his home in Noida's sector 82 at the age of 76.
A 1975-batch IAS officer, Mehta served as the capital's top bureaucrat from 2007 until his retirement in 2010 under former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
He was widely recognized for spearheading critical infrastructure upgrades, power-sector reforms, and extensive preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, alongside a tenure as the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Police recovered a suicide note at the scene in which Mehta attributed his tragic decision to prolonged health complications, physical ailments, and mental distress, stating explicitly that no other individual was responsible for his death.
Local authorities conducted an inquest and completed forensic procedures before his last rites were performed at Delhi's Lodhi Road crematorium.
