‘Final deadline’ past, Rabri may vacate residence on July 5
New Delhi: With the ‘final deadline’ to vacate her official residence on 10, Circular Road in Patna ending on Monday (June 29, 2026), and most of her household goods already shifted, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi has sought, in order “to avoid any further controversy”, the ‘charge register’ containing the list of household items provided at the residence when it was allotted to her in 2006 by the Bihar government.
Mrs. Devi is now expected to vacate the residence on July 5, which is also the RJD’s foundation day.
10, Circular Road, where Mrs. Devi has been living with her family for about 20 years, was allotted by the State government on May 27, 2026 to Bihar Dairy and Fisheries Minister Nand Kishor Ram.
Several notices have been issued to Ms. Devi, with the ‘final notice’ issued on June 22 to vacate the bungalow by June 29. Her staff, meanwhile, wrote to the State Building Construction Department. “Officials from the department visited the residence on June 24 but failed to furnish the authorised list of household items provided at the time of allotment of the residence in 2006,” the letter said. The department was asked to “furnish the list of household items officially so that they could be verified before the residence is finally vacated”.
Most of the household goods from 10, Circular Road have already been shifted either to the new official residence allotted to Ms. Devi (at 39, Hardinge Road) or to one of her other homes in the Kautilya Nagar locality of the State capital. Vans laden with household goods have been seen coming out of 10, Circular Road, and technicians have been spotted removing CCTV cameras from the government bungalow. The residence at 39, Hardinge Road has been renovated and painted afresh recently.
Ms. Devi, along with her ailing husband, former Bihar Chief Minister and party president Lalu Prasad, may live temporarily at the official residence of their younger son, Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly. Mr. Yadav’s official residence is at 1, Polo Road, near the Patna airport. Vans have been seen delivering some of Ms. Devi’s household goods here as well.
The couple, both former CMs, have had their security cover downgraded. Lalu Prasad Yadav was seen leaving his residence without any security cover on Monday (June 29, 2026) and on another previous occasion. “If the government thinks he [Mr. Yadav] has no security threat, then it’s okay for him to move around without any security,” an RJD leader said.
Mr. Yadav, who has undergone a kidney transplant, returned from Singapore after a medical check-up recently. The kidney was donated by his second daughter, Rohini Acharya, who lives in Singapore with her family.
