Bihar Launches New Push to Promote Urdu Among State Government Employees
The Bihar government has rolled out a fresh initiative to promote Urdu, the state's second official language, among administrative personnel.
Spearheaded by the Cabinet Secretariat Department's Urdu Directorate, the program introduces a structured 70-day online learning and certification course designed specifically for non-Urdu-speaking state employees.
Training sessions are held four days a week, Monday through Thursday, running from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Participants take a formal examination upon completion to earn an official Urdu Learning Certificate.
Administrative heads, including principal secretaries and district magistrates, have been directed to encourage widespread employee participation.
This digital drive aligns with broader efforts to bridge communication gaps in public administration, which include recent plans to recruit 2,000 Urdu translators through the Bihar Staff Selection Commission.
Bihar made history in 1981 by becoming the first Indian state to recognize Urdu as its second official language.
