Bangladesh Rules Out Tarique Rahman's India Visit for BRICS Summit

Bangladesh has officially clarified that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will not visit India for the upcoming BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

Dhaka stated that the invitation extended by New Delhi was meant for the Chair of BIMSTEC rather than a formal bilateral invitation for the Prime Minister.

Because Bangladesh currently holds the regional chairmanship of BIMSTEC, participation in that specific capacity was deemed inappropriate for a prime ministerial state visit.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir emphasized that while this particular multilateral event is off the table, Dhaka remains open to scheduling an official bilateral visit to India in the future when diplomatic conditions align.

The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12–13, convening member nations and outreach partners to discuss global economic and geopolitical cooperation.
