All members must submit an affidavit before making allegations in the House: UP Assembly Speaker
Lucknow: On the third day of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly's winter session on Tuesday, Speaker Satish Mahana asked members of both the opposition and the ruling party to submit an affidavit before making any allegations against anyone.
A Samajwadi Party (SP) member expressed dissatisfaction with the written reply to a question regarding accidents caused by Chinese kite strings and accused the government of providing false information.
As the question hour had ended, senior SP member Ravidas Mehrotra, unable to ask supplementary questions, said that the government had not given a correct answer to his question. Countering this allegation, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that the government had given the correct answer. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey intervened, saying, "It has become a tradition that when ministers give answers, instead of giving a direct answer, they level allegations against previous governments. The rule is that there should be evidence when making allegations against someone. Stop this practice, otherwise, we will protest at that very moment."
Pandey had objected to the reply given by Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh on a question related to education.
Khanna said that the minister had not named any party and had only referred to previous governments.
Amidst this debate, Speaker Satish Mahana, giving his ruling, said, "I will tell all members, before making any allegations, send an affidavit to my table. This will apply to all 403 members of the House. This will apply to both the questioner and the government. If any member asks a question, it should only be asked after it has been verified."
When Leader of the Opposition Pandey objected to this, Mahana said, "Now you have changed your stance."
