Govt invites junior doctors to chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat for meeting at 5 pm
Kolkata: The chief secretary sent a new email to the junior doctors on Monday inviting them for a new round of talks with the government at West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence at 5pm.
The protesting doctors at the Swasthya Bhavan protest site welcomed the invitation and said they will have a meeting to decide on the new offer of talks and inform the chief secretary about their decision. Many of them told news channels that their five-point demands remain, which include the resignation of the commissioner of Kolkata police Vineet Goyal.
On Saturday, the chief minister went to the junior doctors' protest site at Swasthya Bhavan and invited them for talks. The doctors accepted the offer and went to the CM’s residence in Kalighat for a meeting at 6 pm on Saturday.
The impasse continued because the doctors spoke of ‘transparency’ and insisted on live streaming of the meeting with the government.
However, the meeting didn’t take place despite a face-to-face interaction between the CM and the junior doctors at CM’s residence in Kalighat.
