Supreme Court upholds constitutional validity of UP Madrasa Act, sets aside Allahabad HC order
New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the validity of 2004 Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, saying it does not violate principle of 'secularism'.
The court also set aside the Allahabad HC order that had quashed the UP Board of Madarsa Education Act and asked state to relocate students to other schools.
In March, the Allahabad High Court had struck down the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, 2004 (Madarsa Act), saying it violated the principles of secularism.
In April, the apex court had stayed the HC verdict until it decided the validity of the UP law.
