Omicron Alert: Regular International Flights Not To Resume From December 15


New Delhi: India has delayed resumption of international flights in view of the emerging threat from the new coronavirus variant Omicron, aviation regulator said on Wednesday. A notice issued by the regulatory body on civil aviation said that the central government is currently monitoring the global coronavirus disease (Covid-19) situation, especially in the wake of the emergence of the new omicron variant which is said to be highly contagious and capable of undergoing rapid mutations.

“In view of the evolving global scenario with the emergence of new variants of concern, the situation is being closely watched in consultation with all stakeholders and appropriate decision indicating the effective date of resumption of international will be notified soon, DGCA said in a statement.

According to reports,  decision on the resumption of international flights will likely only be taken after the government finds it relatively safer to do so amid the prevailing pandemic situation.
