7 Killed, Several Injured After Bikaner Express Derails Due to 'Fault in Tracks'; Probe Ordered
New Delhi: At least seven casualties were reported after the Guwahati-Bikaner Express got derailed at Moynaguri in north Bengal, under North East Frontier Railway, on Thursday evening at around 5pm. As the rescue work is going on, the injured are being taken to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital. A high-level investigation has been ordered to probe the accident.
Railway officials later said at least 12 coaches were affected. Photos from the accident showed at least four to five bogies lying upside down on the track. The number of casualties may go up, officials said.
Giving the details of the passengers who were there on the Guwahati-Bikaner Express, Rajesh Kumar, chief reservation supervisor, Patna junction, said 98 passengers boarded the train from Patna junction. Three people boarded from Mokama and two from Bakhtiarpur, he said.
After the train accident, a high level Commissioner Railway Safety enquiry has been ordered. Meanwhile, around 250 passengers have been rescued so far, sources said.
All senior officers have been rushed to the accident spot while several officials have already reached the site. NDRF and SDRF teams, cutting equipments, ambulances and food materials have been mobilised DIstrict hospital amd North bengal medical college have been alerted.
Officials said that the worst affected compartment in the accident is S6. Several passengers are still trapped inside the S6 compartment. Meanwhile, the rescuers are trying to get the trapped passengers out.
